Stuart Ryan is a barrister with extensive litigation and dispute resolution experience in matters involving the use and development of natural and physical resources. His practice focuses on resource management, public law, judicial review, local government, and related property disputes.

Based in Auckland, Stuart provides services throughout New Zealand. He advises on all aspects of environmental, resource management, local government, public law, administrative law, and enforcement issues. He also advises on issues that overlap with property disputes.

He appears regularly in council hearings, the Environment Court, the High Court, and in the Appellate jurisdiction. Prior to joining the bar, Stuart was a partner at Tauranga and Auckland based firms.  Stuart has over 30 years' experience.Stuart has been listed in ‘Best Lawyers’ for New Zealand for the local government practice area since 2020. He presents seminars to the profession and is a contributing editor to Salmon Resource Management
